A Trophy donated by the late Mr. R. ADDISON Esq., is awarded for the best 2 year old. Trophy to be held for one year. 86. Mare or Gelding, 3 years-old upwards. 87. Pair in hand. 88. Decorated Horse in any gears. Prize Money: First £30; Second £20; Third £10. A Trophy donated by FRANK WALKER Esq., Mansfield Woodhouse, will be awarded for the best decorated horse in this Class. Trophy to be held for one year. A TROPHY will be presented to the exhibitor gaining the most points in Section 16. Trophy to be held for one year. The CORNFORTH TROPHY is awarded for the Best Agricultural Horse in Show. Trophy to be held for one year. £10 prize donated by Mr G Dowson to competitor travelling furthest as the crow flies.
SECTION 17 HORSES - CLEVELAND BAYS Prize Money: First £15, Second £10, Third £6. Entry Fee: £4.00. £25 towards prize money in this Section is given by THE CLEVELAND BAY HORSE SOCIETY. SHAW & CO. SOLICITORS, Newcastle, specialist equine lawyers have presented a prize of £50 and a sash for the best turned out entry in classes 89 to 93
Class 89. Part bred Cleveland Foal, Colt, Gelding, or Filly. 90. Part bred Cleveland, Colt, Gelding or Filly, 1, 2 & 3 years old. 91. Cleveland Brood Mare, 3 years old and upwards. 92. Cleveland Foal, Colt, Gelding, or Filly. Class 92 competes for the Sir Alfred Pease Trophy on a points basis with Hinderwell, Egton and Stokesley. 93. Cleveland Colt, Gelding, or Filly, 1 or 2 years old. A Trophy presented by J. Lees Esq., in memory of Miss Ruth Kitching will be awarded for the best yearling filly in this Class. Trophy to be held for one year. The Wilson Cup in memory of the late Fred Wilson donated by his family for the best part bred. The PETCH CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL, given by the late Miss PETCH, Primrose Hill, in memory of her brother the late G. T. PETCH, for the Best Female in Show, entered in or eligible for the Cleveland Bay Horse Society’s Stud Book. The Bowl to be held for one year. The Captain E.L. Watson Trophy, given by Mrs V. Cunningham for the Best Male in show. The TYNEDALE TROPHY, given by the late Mrs Carol Charles, for the best Cleveland Bay brood mare. To be held for one year. All Cleveland Bays must be entered in the Cleveland Bay Horse Society’s Stud Book or in the Grading Register, and names of animals, sire and dam to be given at time of entry.
SECTION 18 PONIES ALL AGES ON SHOW DAY Prize Money: Classes 94-103, First Prize Choice of Plaque or £12 cash, Second £10, Third £8. Entry Fee: £4.00
Class 94. Lead Rein Pony for Ponies 12.2 h.h. or under, ridden by a boy or girl not exceeding 8 years. Residing in the local district as specified on Page 4. The JACK WOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY will be presented for the winner in this Class. Trophy to be held for one year. 95. Pony, Brood Mare, not to exceed 14.2 h.h. (with foal at foot or stinted). The BYLANDS STUD challenge trophy, donated by Mr. J. Battersbee, is awarded for the winner of this Class. Trophy to be held for one year. 96. Foal progeny of Class 95. 97. Yearling Colt, Gelding or Filly, calculated to make a Riding Pony not more than 14.2 h.h. when fully grown. 98. Two or three year old Gelding or Filly, calculated to make a Riding Pony not more than 14.2 h.h when fully grown. 99. Child’s Pony 12.2 h.h. and under, to be ridden by a boy or girl not exceeding 12 years. 100. Child’s Pony, over 12.2 h.h. and under 13.2 h.h. to be ridden by a boy or girl not exceeding 14 years. 101. Lead Rein Pony for Ponies 12.2 h.h. or under, ridden by a boy or girl not exceeding 8 years. Millbry Hill kindly donate vouchers redeemable by them for prizes in this class. £12, £10, £8 vouchers. The Polly Hughlock cup will be presented to winner of this class. Cup to be held for one year. 102. Gelding or Filly Pony of Hunter type over 12.2 h.h. not exceeding 13.2 h.h. to be ridden by a boy or girl 16 years or under. 103. Gelding or Filly Pony of Hunter type over 13.2 h.h. not exceeding 14.2 h.h. to be ridden by a girl or boy 16 years or under. The J. E. COCKERILL MEMORIAL TROPHY, presented by his daughters, will be awarded for the winner of this Class. Trophy to be held for one year.
SECTION 19 ARABS Prize Money: First £12, Second £10, Third £8. Entry Fee: £4.00 ALL IN HAND COLTS OR STALLIONS MUST BE BITTED If there are less than 7 entries present for either of the following classes for the best Pure Bred and Part Bred classes may be amalgamated at the discretion of the Steward or Judge.
Class 104. Pure Bred Arab, any age, to be shown in hand. The Westcliffe Trophy Bred Pure Bred Arab shown in hand. Trophy to be held for one year. 105. Anglo-Arab, or part bred Arab, any age, to be shown in hand.
SECTION 20 HUNTERS Prize Money: First £15, Second £10, Third £6. Entry Fee: £4.00. Class 106. Hunter Brood Mare with Foal at foot or stinted. 107. Hunter Colt or Filly Foal. 108. Hunter Colt, Gelding or Filly, 1 year old. 109. Hunter Colt, Gelding or Filly, 2 years old. 110. Hunter Colt, Gelding or Filly, 3 years old. 111. Ridden Hunters 14.2hh and above. The HOWECOT Rosebowl, donated by Mrs. A. Hartley, is awarded for the best in-hand hunter from classes 106 to 110. Trophy to be held for one year. The First Prize in Class 111 is the PRESIDENT’S PRIZE donated by Mr Chris Berry. The WILLIAM COCKERILL MEMORIAL CUP, donated by Mrs. F. & Mr. J. COCKERILL, is awarded to the winner of Class 106. The trophy to be held for one year. The Cleveland Bay Horse Society will award 2 rosettes to the highest placed pure or part bred Cleveland Bay in classes 106-111.
SECTION 21 MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONIES. Breed to be shown on entry form. Prize money: First £12, Second, £10, Third, £8. Entry Fee: £4.00.
Class 112. Welsh ponies. Section A any age. To be shown in hand. The FOULSYKE BLISS MEMORIAL SHIELD donated by Mr. & Mrs. C.D. Swalwell is awarded for the best Welsh A in hand. Trophy to be held for one year. 113. Welsh Ponies. Section B any age. To be shown in hand. 114. Shetland Ponies, any age. To be shown in hand. HAWSKER STUD TROPHY for Best Standard Shetland. 115. Any other native breed [excluding Welsh A&B, Shetland, Dales], any age. To be shown in hand. Connemara, Fell, Highland, New Forest, Exmoor, Dartmoor etc. 116. Miniature Shetland Pony. Height not to exceed 34in. To be shown in hand. Hawsker Stud donates the HAWSKER STUD TROPHY for the best miniature. 117. Dales Pony, any age. To be shown in hand. 118. Shetland Ponies, any age. Ridden. Rider any age. 119. Ridden Welsh Ponies, of Section A or B. Riders any age. Ponies 4 years and over. Lead rein not eligible. 120. Ridden any other native breed [excluding Welsh A&B, Shetland, Dales], Riders any age. Ponies 4 years and over. Connemara, Fell, Highland, New Forest, Exmoor, Dartmoor etc.
SHETLAND CHAMPION. A CHAMPION rosette and SILVER CUP presented by PRIORY SADDLERY will be awarded to the best Shetland Pony in Show. (Classes 114, 116 & 118). Trophy to be held for one year. CHAMPION and RESERVE CHAMPION Rosette will be awarded for best in-hand entry in classes 112-117 first and second prizewinners to compete. CHAMPION and RESERVE CHAMPION Rosette will be awarded to the best ridden entry in classes 118-120, first and second prize winners to compete. The Supreme Champion in the Mountain and Moorland Section will receive the NEWCOMEN CUP, a Supreme Champion Rosette, and a special prize of £5. The NEWCOMEN CUP to be held for one year. This cup was originally owned by the Cleveland Agricultural Society and was donated to Danby Agricultural Association in 1981. The Supreme Champion in the Mountain and Moorland Section will receive the SHEENA LAWSON MEMORIAL TROPHY donated by Wainstones Stud. To be held for one year.
SECTION 22. COLOURED HORSES AND PONIES. Prize money: First £12, Second, £10, Third, £8. Entry Fee: £4.00. 121. Coloured Horse or Pony, any age. To be shown in hand. 122. Coloured Horse or Pony, any age, ridden. Rider any age. MILLBRY HILL kindly donate vouchers redeemable by them for prizes in this class. £12, £10, £8 vouchers.
SECTION 23. RIDING HORSE. Prize money: First £12, Second £10, Third £8. Entry Fee: £4.00. 123. Riding Horse 14.2hh and over. No jump involved. The winner of this class will be awarded the Danby and District Bridleways Group Trophy. Trophy to be held for one year. The winner will also be awarded a perpetual medal by Danby and District Bridleways Group.
Section 24. JUMPING AND RIDING EVENTS. ALL ENTRIES for Classes 124 -147 will be taken on the field. Classes 124-130. Prize Money: First £10, Second £7, Third £5. Entry Fee: £5 to be paid to the Ring Stewards on the Showfield. Rosettes to 6th. – Please note new start time of 9.45am
124. Novice Horse, not to have won more than £25. Rider any age. The “MURK ESK TROPHY” donated by MR & MRS R TINDALL is awarded for the winner of this class. Trophy to be held for one year. 125. Intermediate Horse, Rider any age. The winner of this class will be awarded The Grange Stud Equestrian Centre Cup to be held for one year. Kindly donated by Mrs Gladys Jordan. 126. Open Horse, Rider any age. Any competitor may enter only 2 of the 3 classes above, on the same horse. Challenge cup given by Mrs. F. M. and the lat Mr. J. R. MILNER will be awarded to the winner of this class. Millbry Hill kindly donate vouchers redeemable by them for prizes in this class. £10, £8, £6. 127. Pony Jumper, 128 cm and under, to be ridden by Children aged 8 years and under, lead rein. The Dumpy Trophy, donated by the HIDE family will be awarded to the winner of this class. Trophy to be held for one year. 128. Pony Jumper, 128 cm and under, to be ridden by Children aged 12 years and under. A CHALLENGE CUP given by Mrs F.M. and the late MR. J.R. MILNER will be awarded to the winner of this class. Trophy to be held for one year. 129. Pony Jumper, 138 cm and under, to be ridden by Children aged 14 years and under. The SUMMERFIELD SUPPLIES TROPHY, donated by Richard Noble esq., Hawsker, will be awarded to the winner of this Class. Trophy to be held for one year. 130. Junior Jumping Competition (open) for ponies not exceeding 148 cm to be ridden by Children aged 16 years and under. A SILVER CUP presented by Mr.V. MCNEIL and the late Mr.J.R. MCNEIL, will be awarded for the winner in this class. The trophy to be held for one year. CLASSES 127 - 130 ARE SPONSORED BY NORTH YORKSHIRE LAW, SOLICITORS, OF WHITBY & SCARBOROUGH. THE CHARLES FARROW TROPHY will be presented to the member of the Glaisdale Hunt Pony Club gaining the most points in Section 24 on the same pony. The system for marking in the Charles Farrow Trophy: 1 point for entering and competing, 5 points for 1st prize, 4 points for 2nd prize, 3 points for 3rd prize, 2 points for 4th prize. Points will not be awarded for entries “out of class”
